What ages are Homeschool Social Studies Studios recommended for?

Our Social Studies Studios were created with children in grades 2-6 in mind, however all ages are welcome. Social Studies Studios were written to align with various Colorado social studies standards for grades 2-6. Do the Homeschool Social Studies Studios align to Colorado education standards?

Yes! Our Homeschool Social Studies Studios are created to meet Colorado’s Social Studies standards. For a complete list of standards that each program meets, please email education@mollybrown.org

Do I have to register and pay in advance?

Yes. Our capacity is severely limited due to the small spaces in the museum. This means that many of our programs fill up months in advance, so in order to reserve your space, advance registration and payment is required. This is true whether you are registering for a program in one month or or 3 months from now.

▸ If we can’t come, are registrations refundable?

We typically do not offer refunds for program registrations. If your plans change and you can no longer make it, as long as you let us know two-weeks or more before the date of the program, we can generally transfer your registration to another program or event, provided there is space. You would still be responsible for any difference in cost, if one exists. If you let us know less than two weeks out, there are no refunds or transfers.

▸ How many adults can attend?

Due to our limited space, registration is limited to 2 adults per family group. All adults are expected to remain with their students at the stations and assist in the program as needed.

▸ Can younger siblings attend?

Siblings ages 0-4 may attend for free, however, if they wish to participate in the activities and take-home components of the program they need to be registered as a student participant.

▸ Will my group get a guided tour of the museum?

You will not get a full guided tour of the museum during a Homeschool Social Studies Studio program, however, you are welcome to explore the museum with your child for 30 minutes after they complete the program. Adults are expected to stay with their students at all times.

Homeschool Social Studies Studios at the Molly Brown House Museum are a one-hour, standards-based programs where homeschool students explore Colorado history, civics, geography, and more through hands-on activities and interactive learning. Designed for students in grades 2–6, each session introduces a new topic and encourages curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

2026 – 2027 SOCIAL STUDIES STUDIO TOPICS:

Lincoln Log City (September): Find out how a city is built and learn how to use Lincoln logs to create your own building! Have fun exploring the history of Denver and come back for part two in October to understand the importance of historic preservation.

Lego City (October): Build cities, explore the history of urban growth, and learn the importance of preserving historic structures in this engaging, hands-on program.

Winning the Vote (November): Examine the women’s suffrage movement in Colorado and the U.S. through a series of interactive puzzles and challenges! Explore primary sources to see how women shaped suffrage in the U.S. and Colorado, despite being left out of official histories.

Denver Grows (March): How did Denver become the city it is today? Explore the challenges early inhabitants faced and make key decisions to grow the city in this interactive game!

Margaret for Change (May): Discover Margaret “Molly” Brown’s legacy as an activist and philanthropist. Learn to be a changemaker in your own community through hands-on activities like sign-making, posters, and music.
