Legal
language used in ordinances, as well as the language
used by people a hundred years ago is sometimes hard
to read. A translation into more simple language
may help you recognize where the Fire District was and
a step by step list will help you know where to run
your red crayon.
Note:
The parallel lines that run through the map in a curving
fashion from the left corner represent the path of Cherry
Creek (and follow Speer Blvd). In 1864, each of
the streets on the right side of the Creek continued
on the left side. This map represents the way
downtown looks today, so you may have to use your imagination
to see where 11th and 10th intersected with Wazee.
Step number six would today take the boundary right
into the Pepsi Center Parking Lot!
The
area within the following boundaries will be known as
the Fire District from now on.
1)
The District begins between Wazee and Wynkoop, in the
alley, where those streets intersect Cherry Creek.
2)
Then the boundary moves along between Wazee and Wynkoop
heading north east until the street meet 16th Street.
3)
The boundary then turns right and moves 4 block to the
alley between Larimer and Lawrence.
4)
The boundary then turns right again and runs along the
alley between Larimer and Lawrence until those streets
run into Cherry Creek.
5)
The boundary then shifts to the right and continunes
along Larimer until it meets the alley between 11th
and 10th.
6)
Next, the boundary turns right again and runs along
the alley between 11th and 10th until it hits Wewatta.
7)
Turning right yet again, the boundary moves up Wewatta
to Cherry Creek.
8)
Finally, the boundary turns right one more time as it
returns to its place of origin.
