Is My House Like Molly's?

Describing The Built Environment Around You

Is My House Like Molly’s   is a fun, hands-on way to learn the different architectural styles, terms, and elements so you can begin describing your home and other buildings important in your day-to-day life. This will help you see not only how architecture differs, but will also help you to distinguish historic from recent architecture. Our environment is all that surrounds us, both natural and man made. The built environment is totally humankind's responsibility, to create and to change. The future of our cities, our quality of life and our abilty to protect the natural environment depends upon educating ourselves to look at what we've built and accept ownership of it. Only then can we decide what to preserve, what to change, what to build now.

Name That Dome! An architectural survey that will lay the foundation for the basics of building techniques and materials throughout the ages.

Form vs. Function?: What is My House? will help you decide what style your own house is, and the houses around you are built in. This tutorial will break down the different architectural elements that help identify styles such as rooflines, materials, and windows.

Let's Build! is a building game where you will learn the basic stages of building a home from zoning and permits to foundations and roofs. When you are done print it out and "paint" it using your own style.

The education programs at the Molly Brown House Museum were funded in part by a grant from the State Historical Fund of the Colorado Historical Society.
