Conclusion

There are buildings all around you, old buildings, new buildings, large buildings, private homes and public businesses.   By investigating Denver ’s historic fire stations you discovered the many ways buildings can relate to the communities in which they are located and why preservationists work to save historic buildings.   Hopefully, you’ll continue to notice the buildings around you, because the built environment plays an important role in our daily lives.

Your Turn:

Chose your favorite building near where you live or go to school.   Draw the building in your FIRE! Passport.   Describe how the building looks, its style, in your own words.   Explain what the building is used for and find out if it was ever used for a different reason.   Tell a story about something that happened to you inside or near your building.   Describe why you think the building is special.   Now, imagine that someone wants to knock down your building and replace it with another structure.   List the arguments you would use to save your building from demolition.

Congratulations!   Your Investigation is Complete!
